THEYYAM FESTIVAL TIMING KERALA Theyyam is a famous divine festival of North Malabar especially in two districts, Kannur and kasaragod and certain places in Kozhikode district which is adjacent to Kannur district. Theyyam generally performed in front of the village shrine especially small sized theyyam temples. It is also performed in the houses as ancestor-worship with elaborate functions and rituals. There is no stage or curtain or other such arrangements for the performance. Noormally perform on the courtyard of each temple. The theyyam make-up is done by theyyam artsis who are expert in body paintings. There are two parts for a theyyam performance, first preliminary performance without much body paintings or costumes, it is called theyyam thotam or vellatam. Full theyyam perform after a gap of 3 to 5 hours.
